Navarre announces technological innovation lab and waste management funding

The Government of Navarre, the Bardenas Community, and NASERTIC have signed an agreement to transform Bardenas Reales into a public innovation laboratory. This 'Living Lab IoT' will serve as an open testing ground for researchers, companies, and educational centers to develop and test technological solutions in real-world conditions. The project will utilize LoRaWAN wireless communication technology to connect a network of low-energy sensors across the territory, facilitating data collection for biodiversity protection, agricultural and livestock management, and climate change adaptation.

In a separate environmental initiative, the Department of Rural Development and Environment of the Government of Navarre has announced 15.3 million euros in funding from the 2026 Waste Fund. These subsidies aim to improve the prevention, collection, transport, and treatment of local and industrial waste. The investment includes 8.8 million euros for local government infrastructure, such as composting and container selection plants, and 4.8 million euros dedicated to mitigating health impacts related to waste management. Applications for these funds are open to both public and private entities until October 25.
