Navi Mumbai cab driver accused of attempting to assault woman passenger

A case of attempted assault and molestation has been registered against a cab driver following an incident near Navi Mumbai Airport in Maharashtra. The victim, a woman traveling from Chembur to Panvel, reported that the driver, identified as Mohammad Afzal Shaikh, pulled the vehicle over on a deserted stretch of the Airport Service Road around 1:30 AM.

According to police reports, the driver initially exited the vehicle claiming he needed to drink water. He then re-entered the car and sat in the rear seat next to the passenger. He allegedly grabbed her hand and attempted to disrobe her. The woman managed to escape the vehicle and alert her family after the driver fled the scene following her outcry.

The Navi Mumbai Airport Police have filed a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Authorities have launched a manhunt and are utilizing technical intelligence to locate the suspect.
