Navia implements Galicia's first industrialized public housing project
The Xunta de Galicia is implementing the first public housing project in the region to utilize industrialized construction techniques in the Navia neighborhood of Vigo. The project consists of a building featuring 35 public housing units, 37 storage rooms, 39 parking spaces, and two commercial premises, with completion expected in 2027.
Ana Ortiz, the Xunta delegate in Vigo, noted that this industrialized model aims to serve as a benchmark for the sector. The method offers several advantages over traditional construction, including reduced execution times, increased predictability by avoiding weather-related delays, and a solution to the shortage of skilled labor through more technical processes. Additionally, the approach promotes sustainability by optimizing material use and reducing the carbon footprint.
Currently, there are 927 public housing units in progress in Navia. Of these, 481 are under construction and 446 have been tendered or awarded. The total investment mobilized for projects, urban development, and land acquisition in the area has reached 238 million euros.
