Navigation technology advances with C-band PNT and enhanced testing
Developments in resilient Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) technologies are advancing through new testing capabilities and signal demonstrations.
TrustPoint and Hexagon's NovAtel have successfully demonstrated C-band PNT signals in the presence of GNSS interference. This effort, funded by the U.S. Navy, utilizes low Earth orbit satellites transmitting in the C-band to provide navigation data independent of conventional L-band GNSS services. The demonstration utilized an enhanced NovAtel receiver to track and acquire these signals while interference was present, offering a potential alternative for navigation when standard signals are disrupted.
In a separate development, Keysight Technologies announced it will showcase expanded PNT test and emulation capabilities at ION GNSS+ 2026. Following its acquisition of Spirent, Keysight plans to demonstrate how sensor fusion—combining GNSS with inertial sensors and LEO PNT—can create resilient architectures. Their demonstrations will focus on validating system performance under contested conditions, such as jamming and spoofing, through coordinated, multi-domain RF test environments.
