Resilient PNT and C-band navigation technology development
Overview
Developments in resilient Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) technologies have progressed through successful signal demonstrations and expanded testing capabilities.
TrustPoint, in collaboration with Hexagon’s subsidiary NovAtel, demonstrated that C-band navigation signals can maintain precise positioning even when Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals, such as GPS, are subject to jamming or interference. This U.S. Navy-funded effort utilizes low Earth orbit satellites to provide navigation data independent of conventional L-band services. The demonstration utilized an enhanced NovAtel receiver to track these signals on an established commercial platform, intended to complement existing GPS for military and autonomous use in contested electromagnetic environments.
In tandem with these signal advancements, Keysight Technologies has announced plans to showcase expanded PNT test and emulation capabilities. Following its acquisition of Spirent, the company aims to demonstrate sensor fusion—combining GNSS with inertial sensors and LEO PNT—to validate system performance against jamming and spoofing through multi-domain RF test environments.
