Kawhi Leonard trade to Raptors on hold as NBA probe of Clippers continues

The NBA is conducting an independent investigation into Los Angeles Clippers and star forward Kawhi Leonard over alleged salary‑cap violations tied to a $28 million endorsement with the now‑bankrupt firm Aspiration. The probe, led by law firm Wachtell Lipton, has widened to examine a possible second, undisclosed endorsement deal and whether the Clippers covered personal expenses for Leonard without reimbursement.

Commissioner Adam Silver said the league expects the investigation to be wrapped up this summer, before the start of the next season, and emphasized that the league did not block the trade. The Toronto Raptors and Clippers agreed to a deal sending Leonard to Toronto in exchange for Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, and multiple draft picks, but both clubs have put the transaction on hold until the inquiry concludes, citing the risk of potential penalties such as suspension or contract voiding for Leonard. The outcome will determine whether the trade can proceed and what disciplinary action, if any, the Clippers may face.
