NBA penalizes Los Angeles Clippers following salary cap investigation
The NBA has issued severe penalties against the Los Angeles Clippers following an investigation into salary cap circumvention involving Kawhi Leonard and potential endorsement deals. The league has stripped the franchise of five first-round draft picks and imposed a $30 million fine.
Clippers owner Steve Ballmer has been suspended from all team and league activities for one year, while Kawhi Leonard received a $700,000 fine. Ballmer has accepted the ruling despite disagreeing with certain findings, and Leonard has denied any intentional violation of league rules.
As a result of the fallout, Leonard has been traded to the Toronto Raptors, ending his seven-year tenure in Los Angeles. Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry expressed support for the league's decision, stating that the length of the investigation gave him confidence that Commissioner Adam Silver reached the appropriate conclusion.
