NBA advances plans for NBA Europe league and EuroLeague partnership

The NBA is advancing plans for a new continental league, dubbed NBA Europe, and has reportedly submitted a proposal to the EuroLeague regarding a potential partnership or acquisition. NBA leadership, including Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum, has been in discussions with major European football clubs such as Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and AC Milan to build a commercial model inspired by the success of European football.

The proposed NBA Europe structure could include 16 teams, with 12 permanent franchises located in key cities including London, Paris, Rome, Milan, Berlin, Munich, Istanbul, Madrid, Athens, Barcelona, Manchester, and Lyon.

EuroLeague stakeholders are scheduled to meet on October 5 in Lake Como, Italy, to discuss the implications of the NBA's offer. Meanwhile, Real Madrid basketball director Juan Carlos Sánchez has expressed strong support for the expansion, noting that the arrival of the NBA would provide a significant economic and media boost to European basketball.
