India's NEET 2026 UG counselling starts, rank lists released
The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced that counselling for the All‑India Quota (AIQ) of NEET‑UG 2026 will begin on 4 August 2026, with the academic session for undergraduate medical courses slated to start on 8 September 2026. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) also opened its online registration for the first round of NEET‑UG counselling on 5 August, covering 15 % AIQ MBBS and BDS seats.
State‑wise rank lists were published on 1 August. The Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences released the Telangana list, naming 38,021 qualified candidates, while the Dr NTR University of Health Sciences issued the Andhra Pradesh list with 33,220 candidates. Both lists are provisional pending final merit confirmation after counselling.
For NEET‑PG 2026, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) opened a correction window for photo, signature and thumb‑impression errors from 31 July to 10 August. The postgraduate exam is scheduled for 30 August 2026, with city‑intimation slips to be sent three weeks before the test and admit cards on 27 August. NBEMS also introduced Aadhaar‑based authentication and biometric verification for candidates.
Following student protests over the cancelled NEET‑UG exam in May, the Union government dismissed 47 NTA officials and announced legal action against them.
