NTA Announces NEET UG 2026 Counselling Schedule and Security Tender
The National Testing Agency (NTA) released the full counselling schedule for NEET‑UG 2026. The first round of All‑India Quota (AIQ) counselling begins on 4 August, with the state‑quota round starting on 13 August. The academic session for the 2026‑27 undergraduate medical courses is set to start on 8 September, and the final joining deadline for all rounds is 10 October. The schedule includes multiple rounds for AIQ and state quotas, a stray‑vacancy round in late September‑early October, and mandates that colleges treat Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted holidays as working days. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) introduced several procedural changes: online resignation of allotted seats, removal of mandatory physical reporting for candidates who wish to upgrade seats in later rounds, and an online registration window (typically 5‑12 August) for the first round. In response to the earlier paper‑leak controversy, NTA issued a tender worth about ₹7.5 crore for 24‑hour security services at its headquarters and regional offices, with applications due by 17 August for security and 20 August for printing services. The tender uses a quality‑and‑cost‑based selection (QCBS) system. Separate rank lists were published: the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) released the Telangana NEET‑UG 2026 list on 1 August, showing 38,021 qualified candidates; the Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) released the Andhra Pradesh list on the same date, listing 33,220 qualified candidates. Following student protests over the cancelled NEET‑UG exam, the Union government dismissed 47 NTA officials and announced legal action against them. For NEET‑PG 2026, the Union Health Ministry announced a single‑shift exam on 30 August, a revised pattern of 180 questions to be answered in 210 minutes, and a new centre‑allocation system where candidates select three preferred states.
