NC State fires head football coach Dave Doeren
NC State has terminated Dave Doeren, the winningest head coach in the program's history, midway through his 14th season. The decision follows a season where the Wolfpack fell below a .500 winning percentage. During his tenure, Doeren amassed a 98-74 overall record, secured four bowl wins, and achieved three Top 25 finishes.
Athletic Director Boo Corrigan released a statement thanking Doeren for his service and leadership, wishing him and his family the best. Despite his success, the program never reached an ACC championship game under his leadership, and fan enthusiasm had reportedly declined following a loss to Stanford.
Several candidates have emerged to fill the vacancy. ESPN has identified Georgia defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann as a potential candidate. Other names mentioned include Cincinnati coach Scott Satterfield, Memphis coach Charles Huff, Wake Forest coach Jake Dickert, and former Wolfpack quarterback Philip Rivers.
