NC State head football coach dismissal

Overview

North Carolina State University dismissed head football coach Dave Doeren following a 31-28 loss to Stanford, which left the team with a 3-4 season record. Doeren, the winningest coach in school history with a 98-74 record over 14 seasons, was terminated midway through his contract, which was set to run through 2029. The university may owe him a buyout estimated between $9.75 million and $10.3 million.

Athletic director Boo Corrigan appointed running backs coach and special teams coordinator Todd Goebbel as interim head coach while a national search for a permanent replacement begins. Potential candidates for the position include Glenn Schumann, Scott Satterfield, Charles Huff, Jake Dickert, and former Wolfpack quarterback Philip Rivers.
