NCDMB initiates plan to boost local oil and gas equipment manufacturing
The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has begun implementing recommendations from an industry study aimed at increasing the domestic manufacturing of critical oil and gas components. During a stakeholders’ meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, officials discussed strategies to expand local capacity and reduce the industry's reliance on imported equipment.
The initiative focuses on manufacturing essential items such as pumps, valves, flanges, gaskets, bolts, nuts, metering solutions, and instrument fittings. These components are vital for sustaining oil and gas production uptime and represent a significant portion of both operating and capital expenditures.
Representing Executive Secretary Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, General Manager Olugbenga Sheba emphasized that developing local manufacturing will strengthen indigenous enterprises, improve technical competence, and maximize value retention within Nigeria. The board cited the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act of 2010 as the statutory basis for prioritizing Nigerian goods and services.
