NCDMB local content and industrialization initiatives
Overview
The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) continues to advance its goal of 70 percent local content participation by 2027 through technical training and professional capacity building. Recent technical initiatives include a 12-month program at Nigeria Machine Tools Limited in Osun State, conducted with Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, providing 60 Nigerians with specialized training in engineering design, CAD, CAM, and maintenance. Additionally, the NCDMB partnered with Tommorow Africa Limited to complete a training program for 200 youths in Abia and Akwa Ibom States, focusing on entrepreneurial skills within the oil and gas value chain.
To bolster industrialization, the NCDMB is actively seeking to attract over 100 Chinese Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to invest in Nigeria. During the 15th China Shale Oil and Gas Summit, representatives highlighted the Nigerian Oil and Gas Park Scheme (NOGaPS) as a primary venue for assembly and manufacturing operations to facilitate technology transfer. This aligns with ongoing efforts to implement industry recommendations for the domestic manufacturing of critical components, such as pumps, valves, flanges, and metering solutions, to reduce reliance on imports.
To support these objectives, the Board leverages the Nigerian Content Intervention Fund, which has distributed over US$400 million to more than 130 indigenous companies. The NCDMB also emphasizes ‘Project 100’, an initiative designed to support high-potential indigenous firms through capacity development and improved market access to increase their global competitiveness.
