Nchiraa family appeals for investigation into boy's death

The Akwamu Royal Family of Nchiraa in Ghana's Bono Region has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama and the Inspector-General of Police to intervene following the death of six-year-old Agyei Agyapong Gethro. The child allegedly died from gunfire during the Fofie Yam Festival on October 3, 2026.

Following the boy's burial on October 23, 2026, the acting head of the royal family, Opanin Paul Kwabena Baffoe, called for a thorough and impartial investigation to identify those responsible. The family has also sought clarity from the Bono Regional Minister, the Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive, and the Wenchi Divisional Police Command regarding the progress of the probe.

Community leaders expressed concern over a recurring pattern of violence and the discharge of firearms during the festival. George Nketia, the Assembly Member for the Dwomoo/Nteema Electoral Area, urged local youth to remain calm and cautioned against bringing firearms to public gatherings.
