NDLEA conducts major drug raids and seizures across Nigeria

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has conducted a series of major operations across Nigeria, resulting in significant drug seizures and arrests. In Lagos, 48-year-old marble businessman Nwankwo Onyebuchi was arrested at Murtala Muhammed International Airport while attempting to board a flight to India. Authorities discovered 1.550kg of cocaine concealed within the walls and railings of his luggage. Onyebuchi reportedly liquidated his business assets to fund the ₦23 million cocaine consignment, which he intended to sell in India for approximately ₦100 million.

Simultaneously, NDLEA operatives dismantled a large-scale distribution network in Lagos, recovering 377,600 bottles of codeine-based syrup valued at over ₦2.6 billion from a warehouse in Okota. In another raid on a residence in Ipaja, officials arrested 55-year-old Shoremi Kayode and seized 324kg of Colorado synthetic cannabis worth ₦972 million.

Coordinated raids across Kano, Kwara, Oyo, Delta, Plateau, and Edo states led to the seizure of various opioids, including tramadol and pentazocine, as well as cannabis and methamphetamine. Additionally, the NDLEA recently destroyed approximately 329,865kg of assorted illicit drugs, including heroin and cocaine, valued at ₦301.06 billion, following a court order in Lagos.
