NDLEA discovers fentanyl precursor in Ogun State drug lab raid

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has discovered a precursor chemical used in the production of fentanyl during a raid on a large-scale methamphetamine laboratory in Ogun State, Nigeria. The clandestine facility was located in a forest spanning the Abidagba and Iroto communities in Ijebu East.

The operation resulted in the arrest of 10 individuals, including three Mexican nationals and seven Nigerians. Authorities seized 2.4 tonnes of methamphetamine and chemicals valued at over ₦480 billion. NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Retd.) noted that the identification of the fentanyl precursor was made possible through forensic equipment provided via a partnership with the United States International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Bureau (INL).

Marwa emphasized that the discovery highlights an emerging threat in Nigeria’s illicit drug market and underscored the necessity of advanced forensic technology to detect sophisticated narcotics production that conventional enforcement methods might miss.
