NDLEA uncovers cocaine and methamphetamine hidden in energy drink parcel

A commercial bus driver in Lagos narrowly avoided prosecution after the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) discovered cocaine and methamphetamine concealed inside an energy drink bottle. The driver was transporting the bottle as a waybill package destined for Ondo State, believing it contained the beverage indicated by the label.

The driver was taken into custody but was eventually spared from legal consequences after NDLEA operatives successfully traced and arrested the individual who had handed him the parcel.

Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, issued a warning to commercial drivers and the general public to avoid accepting any parcels whose contents cannot be verified. He emphasized that under the law, possession of illicit substances can make an individual culpable regardless of whether they were aware of the hidden contents.
