NDMC launches mega tree‑planting drive across Delhi under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign

New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Vice Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal led a major tree‑planting drive in the capital on Sunday, marking the 31st consecutive weekly event of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign. The initiative coincides with Delhi’s broader goal of planting 70 lakh trees and involves resident welfare associations, schools and local citizens.

The NDMC plans to plant around 600 trees and 50,000 shrubs at 34 locations, using native species such as peepal, neem, jamun and ornamental shrubs to boost biodiversity. NDMC maintains roughly 1,450 acres of green space – six major parks, 122 colony parks and thousands of avenue trees – contributing about 55 % of Delhi’s overall green cover despite covering only three percent of the city’s area.
