Romania: Multiple corruption and traffic law enforcement actions

Romania is seeing a series of high-profile law enforcement and anti-corruption actions across various sectors. The National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) has detained an inspector from the Environmental Fund Administration for allegedly accepting a 45,000 lei bribe to reduce waste declaration obligations. Additionally, the former head of the Neamț Driving License Service, Lucian-Nicolae Gabur, is under judicial control for bribery and influence peddling related to driving test results.

In the transport and environmental sectors, authorities have seized 24 drones valued at over 1 million lei at the Calafat–Vidin border after the driver failed to provide origin documents. On the coast, a 51-year-old woman was fined 10,000 lei after being filmed driving her car on a beach in Cap Aurora. Other police operations in the southern coastal region resulted in 45 fines totaling over 14,000 lei during a crackdown on public order and alcohol consumption.

Local administration is also under scrutiny, with an audit of the Bistrița-Năsăud County Council revealing significant financial irregularities and unrecorded assets totaling over 97 million lei. Meanwhile, in Brașov, Prefect Mihai Cătălin Văsii has announced his resignation following changes in the central government.
