Nebraska Governor issues executive orders to aid agricultural producers
Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen has issued two executive orders to provide financial and logistical relief to the state’s agricultural sector amid rising diesel prices and high input costs.
The first order allows highway-registered vehicles to use untaxed, dyed diesel fuel without state penalties. Additionally, farmers and ranchers transporting crops and livestock on state roads can seek refunds for diesel taxes paid through the Nebraska Department of Revenue. These measures are set to remain active for 90 days.
The second order addresses transportation pressures by easing weight restrictions. Vehicles transporting livestock and crop products are permitted to carry up to 25% more than the standard legal gross and axle group weight limits without requiring additional permits or fees.
In a separate move, Governor Pillen sent a letter to President Trump requesting a 90-day pause on U.S. diesel exports to foreign nations. He argued that halting exports would allow domestic reserves to rebuild and lower costs for Nebraska producers and consumers.
