Negeri Sembilan chiefs warn PM Anwar against constitutional interference
The Four Unduk Undang of Negeri Sembilan have issued a joint statement warning Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the Attorney General's Chambers against interfering in the state's constitutional affairs. The chiefs emphasized that under Articles 10 and 11 of the Negeri Sembilan Constitution, they hold the absolute authority to select and remove the state's supreme ruler.
The chiefs cautioned the federal government against using central agencies to disrupt state governance or bypass constitutional mandates. They also denied allegations that the Menteri Besar and the State Executive Council conspired to remove Tunku Muhriz, labeling such claims as “malicious defamation” and stating that the officials were merely executing the decision made by the Four Unduk Undang.
In a separate development, the dismissal of 10 state executive council members by Tunku Muhriz, effective September 20, has caused significant political uncertainty. The gazette cited violations of loyalty oaths as the reason for the removals. Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has not commented directly on the royal controversy or the administrative vacuum, instead posting social media updates focused on religious blessings and his ongoing official duties, including presiding over state agency board meetings.
