Negeri Sembilan MB claims forced signing of royal removal proclamation

Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Ismail Lasim has alleged that he was coerced into signing an instrument of proclamation intended to remove the state ruler, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir. Ismail has lodged a police report to investigate the claims of duress regarding the document, which was dated August 3 and reportedly signed by him and four chieftains.

Deputy Prime Minister and UMNO President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that the claims should be verified by the lawyer present during the signing process. Zahid denied being present during the signing and dismissed allegations that he had received a resignation letter from the Menteri Besar. He emphasized that the party respects the royal institution and state customs.

DAP vice-chairman Syahredzan Johan has called for transparency, urging Ismail to identify those responsible for the alleged coercion. Johan noted that the situation impacts the security and continuity of the nation’s royal institutions and called for a formal investigation into whether political leaders were involved.
