Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar meets Tuanku Muhriz to resolve state crisis

Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Ismail Lasim arrived at Istana Hinggap in Seremban to seek an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir to resolve an ongoing state crisis. The meeting included other high-ranking officials, such as the Sungai Ujong Undang, the Rembau Undang, and the Negeri Sembilan police chief.

The crisis emerged following a statement from the state executive council that purportedly sought to remove Tuanku Muhriz from his position. The Attorney-General’s Chambers declared the statement invalid, noting that the Menteri Besar and executive council lacked the authority to make such a declaration. In response to a breach of oaths and pledges of allegiance, Tuanku Muhriz revoked the appointments of 10 executive council (Exco) members.

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has directed the Menteri Besar to consult with the ‘Undang Yang Empat’ and other customary hierarchies to find an amicable solution. Zahid emphasized that a state of emergency is not necessary as there are no security disturbances, and stated that the priority must be to ensure the administration continues to function and the people are not negatively impacted by the political instability.
