Negeri Sembilan state election sees BN‑PN pact and PH contest all 36 seats

Malaysia’s Negeri Sembilan state election is scheduled for 1 August, with early voting beginning on 28 July. Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) have signed a seat‑sharing agreement: BN will field candidates in 25 constituencies and PN in 11, avoiding direct competition. Pakatan Harapan (PH) will contest all 36 seats, positioning the election as a test of the new BN‑PN alliance ahead of the 16th general election.

Key political figures have outlined their strategies. PH deputy chairman Anthony Loke pledged not to attack individual cabinet members and to focus on policy proposals. Former Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar said the BN‑PN formula could generate a “blue wave” for the coalition. PAS leader Ahmad Fadhli Shaari urged voters to support only BN and PN candidates. Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced that campaign teams from Johor would assist BN in Negeri Sembilan. Police granted permits for 19 campaign events, stressing tight security monitoring. The election outcome is expected to influence the future cooperation between BN and PN at the federal level.
