Negeri Sembilan State Assembly Dissolved Ahead of June Election

The Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly (DUN) was officially dissolved on 5 June, clearing the way for a state election. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun announced the move after receiving permission from the Yang Dipertuan Besar, Tuanku Muhriz, during a meeting at Istana Besar Seri Menanti.

The dissolution ends the current administration’s term and enables the Election Commission of Malaysia to schedule candidate nominations, campaign periods, and the voting day for all 36 state seats. The Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition – comprising PKR, DAP and Amanah – said it will contest every seat. The decision was taken ahead of the scheduled end of the assembly’s term in September 2028, following political disputes earlier in the year.

The last Negeri Sembilan state election was held on 12 August 2023, where PH secured 17 seats, UMNO/Barisan Nasional 14, and Perikatan Nasional 5, leading to a coalition government. The current dissolution aims to restore a clear mandate from voters amid recent political turbulence.
