Negeri Sembilan State Election Sparks Calls for Coalition Realignment

Former UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin argues that uniting Malay votes could enable Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) to regain Selangor, and stresses that any cooperation should not jeopardise national stability ahead of the next general election. UMNO secretary‑general Asyraf Wajdi reiterated that the unity‑government agreement between BN and Pakatan Harapan (PH) remains in force only until the next election, and that any changes require consent from all parties.

PH unveiled a manifesto for the Negeri Sembilan state election focused on delivering on its eight‑year record, promising 30,000 high‑income jobs, 20,000 affordable homes and major infrastructure projects such as the Port Dickson International Port and a new rail line. Caretaker Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun emphasized implementation over new promises.

In response to BN’s new electoral pact with PN in Negeri Sembilan, PKR Youth deputy chief Shahrul Adnan called on PH to reassess its partnership with BN, arguing that BN’s willingness to align with PN on state‑level contests undermines the federal coalition. Former Amanah deputy president Mahfuz Omar also warned against “fear politics” that divides voters ahead of the election.
