Negeri Sembilan Undangs withdraw judicial review over ruler removal

Four former Negeri Sembilan Undangs—Datuk Mubarak Thahak, Datuk Maarof Mat Rashad, Datuk Muhammed Abdullah, and Datuk Abd Rahim Yasin—along with the serving Undang of Johol, have withdrawn their judicial review bid in the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

The applicants had sought a mandamus order to compel the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar to sign a proclamation regarding the removal of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir. The legal action was deemed academic after the Menteri Besar executed the proclamation on August 3, 2026.

While the withdrawal was not opposed by the Attorney General’s Chambers, legal representatives for the Dewan Keadilan dan Undang (DKU) Negeri Sembilan and other interveners sought costs. Judge Norliza Othman granted the withdrawal with no liberty to file afresh and ordered the four applicants to pay RM10,000 in costs to each of the proposed interveners.
