Neighbourhood libraries in The Hague and Oostzaan reopened after renovations

In early June, the neighbourhood libraries of Nieuwe Veste Haagse Beemden and Haagse Zuid in The Hague were officially reopened. The ceremonies were led by municipal councillor Marike de Nobel and library director Hilda Vliegenthart, accompanied by children from a local musical class. The refurbished spaces feature flexible layouts, movable bookcases and expanded areas for reading, studying, workshops and community events.

On 9 June, the Sociaal Plein in Oostzaan – which houses the local library – was also reopened after a redesign. Deputy mayor Eelco Taams cut a ribbon, highlighting the new warm, multifunctional setting created through cooperation between the municipality, the Bibliotheek voor de Zaanstreek and social organisations. The venue now offers book lending, meeting rooms and activities aimed at strengthening neighbourhood cohesion.
