Neil Wang expands electric bus production in Nowra, Australia
Neil Wang, chief executive of Foton Mobility Services, is scaling up electric‑bus manufacturing in South Nowra, New South Wales. After arriving as an international student at the University of Wollongong and meeting his wife, Wang now leads a plant that sources more than half of its components locally, boosting the regional supply chain.
The temporary facility on the Princes Highway is assembling two cutting‑edge electric buses each week, including pantograph models with roof‑mounted batteries already used at Sydney’s Northern Beaches depot. Plans are under way for a new factory on Oxford Street that would raise weekly output from two to eight buses and create 27 additional jobs. Wang said the goal is to develop carbon‑fibre bus frames and bodies, which could reduce weight and extend range.
"I am thrilled to be able to give something back to a region that played such a big part in my early life in Australia," Wang said, highlighting the economic benefits of local sourcing and employment.
