Australia and NZ electric transport rollout expands

Overview

Since June 2025 Australia and New Zealand have accelerated electric‑vehicle deployment across buses, trucks and delivery fleets. The NSW government’s $6.5 billion program targets at least 1,700 electric buses and depot upgrades, while Volvo introduced its BZL articulated bus in Perth and Sydney and began local production of battery‑electric trucks at its Wacol plant. Volvo Trucks added a sustainability layer, using up to 75 % recycled plastic and FSC‑certified wood veneers in its VNL and VNR heavy‑duty models to cut production emissions. The first Australian‑built OEM electric trucks entered service with logistics firm Linfox, and a 21,000 m² automated parts‑distribution centre opened in Minto for batteries and BEV components. New Energy Transport (NET) launched its first Volvo FH electric prime mover for Unilever in Sydney and, backed by Volvo Financial Services and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation, will add 11 more units within a year.
