Neltume Ports plans US$ 900 million Montevideo Container Terminal

Neltume Ports is planning to invest approximately US$ 900 million in the development of the Montevideo Container Terminal (MCT) in Uruguay. The project aims to establish the Port of Montevideo as a strategic regional logistics hub and increase its capacity to roughly 1.4 million TEUs annually by 2035.

The initiative seeks to capture an additional 985,000 TEUs per year from Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, and Bolivia. The project follows a ruling by the Tribunal de lo Contencioso Administrativo (TCA) that annulled a specific clause in a previous decree, which had established restrictions on granting other specialized container terminals and was deemed to create a de facto monopoly.

The development is expected to create 1,800 new jobs and diversify the port's connectivity to enhance Uruguay's foreign trade efficiency.
