Serbia: Studentska lista alleges bank fraud and media corruption
Nemanja Karović, a candidate for the Studentska lista, has alleged that the outgoing administration attempted to withdraw approximately one billion dinars (8.5 million euros) from Banka Poštanska štedionica. Karović claimed this attempt could have destabilized the national financial system and jeopardized the payment of salaries and pensions. Banka Poštanska štedionica has officially denied these claims, stating they are unfounded and that the institution remains stable and liquid.
In the same televised appearance, Karović accused Telekom Srbija of using public funds to finance media outlets loyal to the previous government. He specifically alleged that the Informer tabloid received between 500,000 and 700,000 euros monthly from the state telecommunications company. Following these allegations, the Studentska lista has called for the dismissal of Telekom Srbija director Vladimir Lučić.
Separately, Manja Grcic has resigned as the Director General of Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) following demands from the student movement and labor unions regarding the public broadcaster’s perceived bias. Meanwhile, the Studentska lista is proposing judicial reforms, including the creation of a special court to prosecute high-ranking state officials, regardless of whether they belong to current or future administrations.
