Nemzeti Sportrádió to cease operations in Hungary

The Nemzeti Sportrádió will cease broadcasting on November 1, 2024, after its provider, Magyar Rádió és Televízió (MRTV) Nonprofit Zrt., requested its removal from the list of public service media services due to economic unfeasibility. The decision was approved by the Media Council, which will release the 105.9 MHz frequency in Budapest.

Launched on June 14, 2024, during the opening of the European Football Championship, the station was intended to cover various sports, including competitive, para-, and leisure sports, as well as youth matches. The station's short tenure followed the dismissal of editor-in-chief Attila Ballai in August and the removal of Nemzeti Sport editor-in-chief György Szöllősi in July.
