Nene Royal wins America’s Got Talent, becoming first Thai champion
Sixteen-year-old Nene Royal, a rock singer and guitarist from Phuket, Thailand, has become the first Thai national to win the 21st season of America’s Got Talent. The victory earned her a $1 million prize and a headlining performance opportunity in Las Vegas.
Royal, whose real name is Rattikarn Amloy, gained widespread recognition through viral performances of rock classics such as The Cranberries’ ‘Zombie’ and Soundgarden’s ‘Black Hole Sun’. During the season finale in California, she performed ‘Seven Nation Army’ by The White Stripes and shared the stage with the American band Linkin Park to perform ‘The Emptiness Machine’.
Her win has sparked significant celebration in Thailand, with Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul offering congratulations. Royal, who began playing guitar at age seven, described the experience as a dream come true. Following her win, it has been announced that she will open for the band Avenged Sevenfold in Singapore this October.
