Nepal search for missing South Korean workers yields no results
The Korea Disaster Relief Team (KDRT) conducted foot and drone searches in the rugged mountainous regions of Nepal following a massive flood that left nine South Korean workers missing. The search focused on areas near the Upper Trishuli-1 (UT-1) hydropower plant, including the power house and Yellow Bridge, following requests from the families of the missing employees.
Despite the Nepal government's recent decision to allow foot searches in previously restricted high-risk zones, the mission has yet to yield any findings. The difficult terrain, characterized by steep cliffs and broken roads, forced teams to rely heavily on drones and helicopters. Search efforts have also included thermal imaging, infrared drones, and search dogs.
The nine missing individuals include six employees from Doosan Enerbility and three from Korea South-East Power. Meanwhile, the broader flood disaster in Nepal has caused over 1,350 deaths, with the total death toll reaching 1,400 when including fatalities in China's Tibet region. The KDRT is currently scheduled to conclude its operations by September 11.
