Nepal and Bangladesh leaders address UN General Assembly
At the United Nations General Assembly, leaders from Nepal and Bangladesh addressed critical global issues. The Prime Minister of Nepal criticized the current global order, noting the disparity between the efficiency of military logistics and the failure of food supply chains. Highlighting the vulnerability of South Asia to climate change, the Prime Minister proposed the creation of a ‘Himalayan Climate Resilience Mechanism’ led by Nepal, India, and China to monitor glaciers and provide early warnings.
In a separate address, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh delivered a speech in Bengali, marking a rare historical moment as the third member of his family to address the General Assembly, following his father, Ziaur Rahman, and his mother, Khaleda Zia. His speech focused on Bangladesh’s priorities, including climate change, global peace, sustainable development, and the Rohingya crisis.
