Nepal announces housing and relief plans for Bhotekoshi flood survivors
Authorities and humanitarian organizations have announced rehabilitation plans for families affected by the Bhotekoshi floods in Nepal. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) aims to move survivors into temporary residences within six months, with a goal of providing permanent housing for 5,116 families in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Gorkha, and Dhading within three years.
The government has initiated financial relief, including monthly assistance of Rs 15,000 for five months, with additional payments for larger families. Furthermore, a process to provide Rs 45,000 in financial aid for the next three months has begun.
In a separate agreement, the Nepal Red Cross Society and the Department of Building have partnered to construct 1,000 temporary shelters and 1,000 permanent homes specifically for families in Rasuwa and the Bhotekoshi area. This initiative also includes rental assistance for approximately 5,000 beneficiaries who lost their homes. Construction is set to begin once the government provides the necessary land.
