Nepal-China border flash flood kills hundreds following glacial collapse

A devastating flash flood triggered by a glacial collapse has struck the Nepal-China border region in the Himalayas, resulting in significant loss of life and destruction. Reports indicate that a 5.2 seismic event likely sent massive amounts of ice and rock into river valleys, unleashing a wave of water and mud estimated to reach 9 meters in height and speeds exceeding 50 km/h.

Initial assessments suggest more than 390 people have been killed and over 1,400 are missing, though the death toll is expected to rise due to the remote, high-altitude location and destroyed infrastructure. Many victims may be foreigners, complicating the recovery and identification process. People are reportedly trapped in hydropower facilities and various villages along the waterways.
