Nepal earthquake strikes Mustang district amid flood recovery

A 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck the Mustang district of Nepal on Tuesday night, with its epicenter located in Lo Manthang. Tremors were also felt in the neighboring districts of Manang, Dolpa, and Myagdi, as well as in the Kathmandu Valley. While no immediate damage from the earthquake has been reported, the seismic event has caused panic and disrupted mobile and broadband networks in affected areas.

The earthquake occurs as the country struggles to recover from devastating floods and landslides triggered by an avalanche near the Nepal-Tibet border on August 26. The recent flooding in the Bhote Koshi river area has resulted in at least 1,357 deaths, with rescue teams still searching for over 5,000 missing persons. The new seismic activity threatens to hinder ongoing relief efforts and complicates the recovery of communities already displaced by the floods.
