Bhote Koshi river rises following lake burst in Tibet, triggering new flood warnings in Nepal
Nepal authorities have issued new flood warnings following reports of a lake burst in the Tibetan region of China. This event has caused water levels to rise again in the Bhote Koshi river, which flows into Nepal's Trishuli river system.
Residents living along the Trishuli river up to Magling have been advised to remain in safe locations and stay on high alert. The new threat comes as the region continues to recover from devastating floods that have already claimed 567 lives across Nepal and Tibet, left 1,024 people missing, and injured 101 others.
Humanitarian efforts are underway, with the European Union allocating two million euros for food, water, shelter, and healthcare. The United States has also sent an initial emergency shipment containing 2.5 tons of food. The Red Cross estimates that approximately 93,000 people are threatened by the disaster, including at least 17,000 children.
