Nepal flash floods devastate Bhotekoshi River settlements
Survivors of devastating flash floods along the Bhotekoshi River in Nepal have described scenes of terror as walls of water, mud, and debris destroyed settlements and swept people away.
In Dhunge Bazaar, Nuwakot, residents reportedly ignored official warnings issued approximately 20 minutes before the surge. Some individuals allegedly approached the Trishuli bridge to film the rising waters for social media, resulting in several people being swept away. Witnesses reported seeing the Trishuli Hydropower Station, market buildings, and the bridge itself destroyed by the torrent.
In the Timure market near the Nepal-Tibet border, survivors described a desperate struggle for survival, with many forced to climb steep hillsides to escape the advancing wall of water and stones. Witnesses recounted watching friends and loved ones being carried away by the floodwaters as homes collapsed around them.
