Nepal floods cause infrastructure damage and missing persons
Severe flooding in central Nepal, triggered by a landslide in the Budhi Gandaki river, has caused significant damage to infrastructure, including roads, bridges, telecommunications towers, and a hydroelectric station. Authorities report that at least five people are missing, while more than 400 security personnel are engaged in search and rescue operations.
Government agencies have evacuated at least 47 people by air and moved hundreds more to safety downstream. A red alert has been issued for residents living along the river. The floods have destroyed dozens of homes and damaged electrical infrastructure, including 50 utility poles.
Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže confirmed that Latvian citizens registered with the consulate, including a travel group from the agency 'Impro', have been identified and are safe due to timely warnings from Nepalese authorities.
