Nepal floods cause massive destruction and casualties in Rasuwa

Sudden, devastating floods in Nepal’s Rasuwa district have caused widespread destruction, with reports indicating hundreds of fatalities and many others missing. Scientists suggest the disaster may have been triggered by a glacial or rock collapse rather than simple heavy rainfall. Such events can cause river levels to rise several meters within just 30 minutes, carrying ice, mud, and massive boulders that destroy roads, bridges, homes, and power infrastructure.

The disaster has specifically impacted pilgrims on the Kailash Yatra. Out of a group of 57 travelers from Tamil Nadu, India, who departed on August 23, 21 people have been confirmed safe. Twenty of these survivors are scheduled to return to Chennai. However, 36 individuals remain missing, believed to be trapped by landslides following the floods. Rescue operations are ongoing, and authorities in Nepal are working with relatives to identify the missing through photographs and personal details.
