Nepal floods kill over 600 people in northern districts

Devastating floods in the northern districts of Nepal, near the Chinese border, have resulted in a significant loss of life and widespread destruction. According to reports from the Nepal Police, the death toll has reached 616, with 2,301 people reported as injured or rescued.

Rescue operations are facing severe logistical challenges due to the collapse of critical infrastructure. The destruction of bridges and main roads has cut off access to many affected areas. In one mountainous region, over 430 displaced individuals are currently being sheltered in a rural school.

Emergency response efforts are being coordinated by thousands of military personnel and 4,473 police officers. Additionally, Caritas Nepal has mobilized more than 155 volunteers to provide essential supplies, including food, clothing, and medicine, to vulnerable communities.
