Nepal floods kill over 900 people and leave thousands missing

Devastating flash floods in Nepal have resulted in a death toll exceeding 900 people, with more than 4,200 individuals still reported missing. Rescue operations continue as authorities recover bodies from debris across multiple districts, including Chitwan, Nawalpur, and Gorkha.

In the Gorkha district, a 130-meter-long suspension bridge over the Trishuli River was swept away by rising waters. This destruction has severed the connection between approximately 400 families and the Prithvi Highway, preventing local farmers from transporting dairy products and vegetables to agricultural cooperatives.

Authorities have issued new flood warnings for the Bhote Koshi River following reports from Chinese officials regarding increased water flow in the upper reaches. A newly formed lake in the mountains, containing an estimated 1.4 million cubic meters of water, remains a significant threat. Residents in affected areas continue to receive emergency alerts as they attempt to assess the damage to their homes and infrastructure.
