Nepal floods leave children facing severe psychological trauma
One week after devastating floods in Nepal left over 1,000 people dead and more than 3,900 missing, children are exhibiting significant signs of psychological distress. According to Save the Children, many children in emergency shelters are reporting anxiety, sleep disturbances, and traumatic memories of the disaster.
In the Nuwakot district, children have witnessed harrowing scenes, including school buses being swept away by floodwaters and the destruction of homes. Many families have lost their livelihoods and possessions, leaving them in a state of extreme uncertainty regarding their future.
Relief efforts are currently being hampered by ongoing rainfall, which weather experts warn could further impede reconstruction and aid delivery. While organizations like Save the Children are providing essential supplies such as blankets, soap, and hygiene items, reaching remote regions remains a significant challenge.
