Nepal floods trigger emergency relief efforts for displaced communities
Relief organizations are providing emergency assistance to communities in Nepal following devastating flash floods that destroyed homes, roads, and critical infrastructure. The disaster has displaced thousands of people and impacted major trading routes between Nepal and China.
Friends of Himalayan Children (FHC) has been delivering household supplies and food to areas such as Dhunche, located approximately 110km from Kathmandu. The organization reported widespread destruction, noting that families have lost nearly all their belongings and that reaching isolated communities remains difficult due to destroyed bridges and roads.
In the Nuwakot region, the charity ShelterBox has provided emergency relief packages to 1,000 families. These packages include pillows, warm blankets, heavy-duty tarpaulin, rope, and sleeping mats. ShelterBox is working alongside partners Islamic Relief and Rotary to distribute these items, with some aid scheduled to be transported to remote areas via helicopter. Many displaced residents are currently sheltering in communal spaces, such as school classrooms, as they await further support.
