Nepal government reviews provincial input for School Education Bill

The Government of Nepal is reviewing suggestions from all seven provinces to finalize the draft of the School Education Bill. An education dialogue is being held at the Nepal Academy in Kathmandu to present and evaluate the conclusions gathered from province-level discussions held in cities including Biratnagar and Dhangadhi.

Education and Sports Minister Sasmit Pokhrel stated that the additional time taken to collect feedback aims to ensure sufficient consultation with students, parents, and other key stakeholders, noting that previous drafts lacked adequate discussion with these groups. The dialogue seeks to address long-standing issues in the education sector, including teacher professional development, school management, student learning outcomes, and curriculum updates.

Key topics of discussion include the division of educational responsibilities among federal, provincial, and local governments, teacher career progression, and inclusive education for students with disabilities. Stakeholders emphasized that improving educational quality requires addressing the needs of teachers and staff alongside policy reforms.
