Nepal highways blocked by landslides and heavy rain

Heavy rainfall and monsoon conditions have caused extensive landslides, road subsidence, and erosion across multiple highways in Nepal. According to reports from the Nepal Police Headquarters, several major routes are currently obstructed, including the Mid Hill Highway in Tehrathum, the Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchok, the Mechi Highway in Ilam, and the Trishuli Mailung Syafrubesi road in Rasuwa.

Specific blockages include the Bheri Corridor in Rukum West and various sections of the Araniko Highway in Bhotekoshi and Chautara Sangachokgadhi. Due to the high risk of flooding, authorities have implemented time-based vehicle bans on certain routes. On the BP Highway connecting Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli, all vehicles are prohibited from operating between 6:00 PM and 4:00 AM, with traffic allowed only between 4:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Similarly, the Kanti Lokpath in Makwanpur faces vehicle bans from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM.

Police have advised travelers to consult relevant authorities regarding current road conditions before beginning journeys, noting that the risks of flooding and erosion remain elevated during the monsoon season.
