Nepal hit by 3.8 magnitude earthquake following deadly flash floods

A 3.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal on Sunday evening, occurring approximately ten days after devastating flash floods hit the region. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the tremor occurred at 6:59 PM with a depth of approximately 20 kilometers. No immediate reports of casualties or property damage resulting from this specific earthquake have been confirmed.

This seismic event follows a previous 3.2 magnitude earthquake on August 27. The earthquake comes at a critical time as the Bhote Koshi River area faces potential flooding risks due to the formation of a new lake.

The death toll from the recent flash floods continues to rise, with Nepal Police reporting 1,344 fatalities so far. Search operations are ongoing in northern and central Nepal to locate individuals trapped under debris and mud. To assist in these efforts, an 11-member technical team from India's National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed to work alongside local rescue teams.
